Vets beat the Belgians

Good start to the vets season
TRRHC MVets 2 - KHCB Bruges 1
The Veteran Men's team opened their season with a good leg stretch on a dry front pitch at HQ on Saturday evening. TRR were a little dis-organised from the get go, luckily we had a spare blue & brown shirt to lend to a sporting Belgian for the first quarter.
Bruce Johnson opened the scoring in the first 5 minutes, much to the surprise of everyone! KHCB rallied under the captaincy of Pieter Delbeke, but were repeatedly turned back by the able defense of Robert Johnson and Tony Bond. Three Rock were awarded a series of short corners, but despite the inventive efforts of Carl Collings and Ravi Surajwanshi, did not manage to widen the margin.
In the last ten minutes the KHCB secretary popped one in around Edward Simpson, unexpectedly. TRR redoubled their efforts in midfield through Fraser Morris and Craig Bishop and were rewarded when David Gilmore sent a ball into the side netting from the top of the D.
The European visitors joined us for a drink on the terrace, where they very kindly produced Bruges' souvenirs and delicious bottles of special Belgian beer. Very good start to our season.
