Thirds dirsupt the Badgers set
By Stephen Findlater
The mighty 3s move up to third in division four with a second successive win; here's Ed Simpson's report
Two texts were received late on Friday night, with two cry off’s from our youth development policy, meant that we were down to 13 for our match away to Navan HC 1st XI.
TRR don’t necessarily travel well…our thanks to Navan, as their home pitch is the new and good pitch at King’s
Hospital. News filtered in that the club had exceeded their target for the Dream Auction, a few cry off’s, N4 roadworks, a few Mobro’s (yes
Arjen will include you in this re the fluff on your lip), and last week’s well earned three points set the scene for todays match.
Navan warm up was professional, clearly here is a team that practice and work hard, so what kind of game would ensue…
We started a bit scratchy, setting the tempo, creating a few chances, and then putting defence under pressure by allowing
unmarked Navan players to shoot from close distance – thankfully Ed was on his game – we adapted and from there on we dictated
the style and pace of the match. Their keeper made some good saves, their defenders were excellent, TRR were not to score
to half time. Navan created several opportunities, and short corners, once again kept out by the defence.
Down to 12 at half time – Findo departed – we talked about all sorts at half time (Ritchie suggested that their keeper was a really good shot stopper!)
but the main theme was not to get frustrated, to play our game and above all K.I.S.S (well for the Mobro’s anyway).
At the start of the second half defence were under pressure with Navan launching attack after attack culminating in
several shorties, Ritchie clearing pads after a good save by Ed, was awarded with another short corner given against
him for deliberately hitting the ball off – or something like that!
We got our game back, held possession, moved the ball at pace, movement off the ball, and great performances from
Jeff, Mike, Arjen, Pete, Roly in midfield. Jeff a man clearly on a mission, forced a short from Navan, and then opening
the scoring with a good goal.
Shortly after Jeff was to cause further carnage in their D, his shot well hit deflected off a Navan stick 2-0 (afterwards Jeff
was keen not to have this goal awarded to him as he would have scored 2 and thus jug avoidance).
Scott, Rig, Ritchie, Jeff, Ru, Ryan, Mac all played their part, the icing on the cake was Arjen finally coming good with a cracker going
just under the cross bar at pace (finally Arjen is on the score card…). Defence worked hard led by Ed and Mac to keep out Navan
for a clean sheet.
MOM: Plenty of contenders, Arjen, Mike, Ed, Mac, but only one real contender, he has gone from DOD v Sutton to MOM – Jeff Sargeant
DOD: A few contenders here, Scott for being late (last four DOD’s awarded for being late!), Arjen’s Mobro – or lack off, but this week DOD
is shared between Dylan and Lee for their late, late cryoff’s – and yes guys that's a jug each…
Look forward to this Saturday’s Derby with PWHC at Grange Rd.
