Our Three Rock Rockets proudly represented both club and country in their debut championships in the Rabo Euro Para hockey championships in Amsterdam recently. We sent 11 players over along with their team manager Hannah O Byrne, who will also be the new team manager for the ladies 2’s this coming season.
The rockets surpassed all expectations having never played a competitive game before. Our rockets played with a wonderful team spirit and overall enjoyed the experience.
With a rally of supporters in tow, they certainly were the talk of the championships.
The shamrock socks were the main attraction on the final two days!! They have received many invites to various cities for the summer of 2018 including London and Barcelona due to the overwhelming support of kindness from other countries.
It was truly an enjoyable experience and one that will be both cherished and talked about for a long time to come! Anybody wanting to join the Rockets can simply contact team manager Hannah O Byrne on 0857401886 for further information. They also have a Facebook page for more information too.
Rabo EuroHockey Championships Amsterdam
Alongside the Rockets, Three Rock had a myriad of other Rovers who represented the Club with aplomb! Daragh Walshe and Ben Walker played big roles in helping the Irish Senior Mens team retain their top tier status in Amsterdam. They were whiskers away from making the semi-finals, but it just wasn’t meant to be this year.
Ali Keogh was part of the umpiring team for the Ladies tournament in Amsterdam. She umpired many games, including between the Olympic Silver and Bronze medallists in her second game there!
Off the pitch, Stephen Findlater did trojan work writing 65 articles for numerous publications, home and abroad, during his week in Amsterdam. Siobhan Madeley, as part of her role with the EHF, did trojan work making sure there was any Championships in the first place! Niall Denham was over, increasing his coaching fountain of knowledge even more too.
Under 21s EuroHockey Championships, Valencia
No rest for wicked as they say! Once the Senior competition finished, Stephen was straight off to Valencia to the cover the Under 21s. Rovers had had five players in this squad this time round. They were Jamie Carr, Luke Madeley, Conor Empey, Fred Morris and Mark Samuel. Jamie was given the honour of captain the team for the tournament.
Congratulations to all players, umpires, reporter, admins and coaches across both squads and tournaments all their hard work and commitment is bearing fruit!
